The Sewer Plant maintains the City's wastewater treatment facility that is capable of handling 1.7 million gallons per day of residential and industrial wastewater. All wastewater collected though the City's system is transported to the treatment facility, treated and processed, and then returned to the environment in a condition not harmful to the surroundings. The activities involved in this process are maintaining equipment and aerators/mixers, analyzing and testing treated samples, and proper disposal of treated sludge and bar screenings from the influent structure.

ONLY FLUSH TOILET PAPER OR HUMAN WASTE - PUT EVERYTHING ELSE IN THE TRASH CAN.

Just because the package says "Flushable" does NOT mean it is! It may go down the toilet or opening to the drain, but it can get clogged in the drain line. Many items labeled "flushable" or "disposable" do not degrade or break down like toilet tissue. These items can end up clogging pipes which may result in messy backups in homes, businesses, or other buildings. They can cause damage to sewer pumps, cause sewer overflows in streets and yards, and result in costly repairs.

The City of Abbeville is NOT responsible for any damage to a customer's property caused by a clogged line or stoppage in the city's sewer lines. It is the responsibility of the customer to install backflow devices on their service line to prevent sewage from backing up into their homes, businesses, other buildings, and/or yards.
